I call my generation the GENERATION of GREEN-BLOODS.
I imagine plants, animals, insects and bacteria, and rocks, soil and water as droplets of blood rushing through the veins of mother Earth.
As we, humans, continue to scar Earth, she continues to bleed. Even more, she is now showing signs of losing life: extremes of hot and cold temperatures, loss of species and collapse of structures.
I CALL MY GENERATION THE GENERATION OF GREEN-BLOODS.
GREEN-BLOODS aspire to be the infusion of healing energy mother Earth needs to revive herself without extreme measures, which could mean human extinction.
GREEN-BLOODS refuse to participate in systems that maximise profits at any cost, because we feel the consequences on our own skin.
GREEN-BLOODS do not believe in artificially instituted political borders, because we are citizens of one country Earth.
Each of us represents a droplet of green blood. Each of us has a unique dream, idea or vision of how to save our world. I will save all the animals in the world from extinction. You will rewrite the law that guards the use of energy. They will make sure all humans share the same information. Collectively, because of those different ambitions, GREEN-BLOODS create a diverse bloodstream that targets all the areas of harm and work together to restore mother Earth.
GREEN-BLOODS are ready to go. But what direction should our first steps be? How does an individual GREEN-BLOOD know where they best fit in?
During the pandemic, a computer screen and I shared a room. As apocalyptic as it seemed at first, I soon realised that most amazing grown-ups, who would otherwise be impossible to connect with, were only an email away in their rooms with their screens. I started to reach out to them with a question: What are the most important skills GREEN-BLOODS need to save the world?
Here are the voices of the grown-ups, who responded. When combined, their different perspectives inspire new ways for caring about our planet, our future and one another. They gave me hope. It is the hope that made me decide to share their voices with you.
By the time the pandemic was over, I created a mosaic of over 100 perspectives. Besides nature conservations, I interviewed teachers, economists, photographers, film-makers, architects, bakers, rabbis and priests… Now I also bring people together for thought provoking events. I call these events Drops of Green Blood. This year I hosted at my school Berlin based artist Andreas Salustri with his “polystyrene visual poetry” performance Materia, and London based theatre company Silent Faces with their “physical political fooling” Godot Is A Woman.
I am a Lower Sixth Form student in England. My name is Ludmila. I am GREEN-BLOOD.
